On 1 January 2021, Swico took over as patron of the SSIS, which has been conducted in partnership with the University of Bern and Sieber&Partner since 2015.
Switzerland’s software industry needs structural data on the sector, which ranked sixth in the country by value added in 2018 (the latest figures from the Federal Statistical Office).
Swico’s expert group, the IG Software, Services und Consulting, took responsibility for developing the SSIS over the long term. It gives the survey fresh impetus and contributes its monitoring of market developments.
The SSIS provides annual structural data on revenue, profit, employees, exports and growth. Each year, the survey also focuses on a specific topic. In 2021, the SSIS examined how software companies deal with external shocks such as the current pandemic. These companies faced a twofold challenge: they had to keep their existing businesses running successfully while also shaping the future through innovation.
After completing the survey, participating companies gain access to the SSIS benchmarking platform and can compare the submarkets relevant to them. The 2021 survey took place in June, and the results were published in November 2021.
The 2026 SSIS focuses on the impact of AI on value creation, investment, customer expectations and governance.
Alongside findings on growth and profitability, this year’s edition centres on the changing world of work.
