Swico has around 700 members from the ICT and internet sectors (as at 2022). These companies employ 56,000 people and generate annual revenue of CHF 40 billion. Membership is available to start-ups and established companies.
Swico represents its members’ interests in politics, business and society. Its work aims to bring economic, non-material and communications benefits to members and their employees.
For example, Swico challenges public authorities on procurement, influences sales law in the interests of trade, promotes the harmonisation of customs tariffs with the EU, facilitates the recruitment of foreign employees and advocates favourable provisions in employment law. These are just a few examples of its work.
Swico members can take part in interest groups and commissions that connect members in specific industry segments and provide opportunities to share experience.
As a member of Swiss and international umbrella organisations and specialist bodies, including those beyond ICT, Swico reaches far more stakeholder groups than companies can individually and raises the sector’s public profile. Through Swico, members can also contribute to these organisations, some of which have significant influence on economic policy, and often work with them and hold seats on their bodies.
Some of the association’s work benefits the entire sector, particularly its influence on legislation and regulatory frameworks, its public advocacy for sector interests, and its publications such as the Swico ICT Index or the Swico House View . This means free riders benefit indirectly too, not just members—but that is unavoidable. Unlike members, however, free riders cannot help shape Swico’s positions to suit their interests or take part in decisions. Above all, only members can benefit from Swico’s special services and discounts.
For 25 years, Swico has successfully operated Swico Recycling, a non-profit take-back system for end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment in IT, consumer electronics, office equipment, communications, the graphic arts industry, and measurement and medical technology.
The Swico industry solution enables companies to manage occupational safety and health protection efficiently. It is certified by the Federal Coordination Commission for Occupational Safety and ensures the optimal application of statutory guidelines.
