About Swico

Swico has more than 750 member companies, which employ a total of 56,000 people and generate annual revenue of CHF 40 billion. These companies cover every aspect of digital business models, including hardware, software, hosting, IT services, consulting, digital marketing and communications.

The Swico network also includes sectors with a strong digital focus, such as consumer electronics, photography, film and printing.

Swico – innovation in the Swiss ICT sector

When Swico was founded in 1989, it brought together members from four associations. The Bürofachverband, known for its annual ‘Büfa’ trade fair, played a prominent role.

International manufacturers and importers shaped the association in its early years. In 1994, they worked together to establish Swico Recycling, the national take-back scheme for end-of-life equipment.

The consumer electronics sector and the printing industry were later incorporated into the association, strengthening Swico’s position in the hardware sector.

Swico brings together the entire ICT sector

Digital transformation has reshaped the Swiss ICT sector, which is increasingly shifting from hardware towards software, IT services and consulting. Cloud computing and the internet are playing a growing role.

To keep pace with this shift, Swico has incorporated other organisations over the years. AFSM, the service management association, handed over its management to Swico in 2014, and Swico took it over in full in 2016.

EuroCloud Swiss became part of Swico in 2015. In 2018, several dozen hosting providers and web agencies from the Swiss Internet Industry Association (simsa) joined Swico.
