The Consumer Electronics interest group is led by an advisory board and represents a distinct ICT sector. Its member companies address specific issues affecting their sector.
Former members of the Swiss Consumer Electronics Association (SCEA) founded the interest group. The market has since changed: Swiss households now use many more digital products than those traditionally classed as consumer electronics.
To reflect changing market conditions, the interest group changed its name from ‘IG Consumer Electronics’ to ‘IG Smart Home’ in mid-2022. It now covers consumer electronics and other areas related to the smart home. Working with the market research institute GfK Switzerland, the group discusses current market figures and possible future developments.
The interest group meets around three times a year to share information on a range of topics and organises talks of interest to its members. Members coordinate exhibitions, discuss technical challenges in a subgroup and examine the sector’s legal framework in working groups. Topics include copyright levies (Suisa) and the advance recycling fee (vRB). The group also contributes to Swico’s responses to consultations relevant to the sector.
