FCOS Directive 6508

This directive specifies employers’ duty to consult occupational safety specialists under Article 11a paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Accident Prevention Ordinance (VUV), as well as measures to promote system-oriented prevention of occupational accidents and diseases (occupational safety) and health protection.

Under their general duties (Articles 3–10 VUV and Articles 3–9 Ordinance 3 to the Labour Act), all employers must identify hazards to the safety and health of employees in their businesses and take the necessary protective measures and instructions in accordance with recognised technical standards. Employers must regularly review the protective measures and equipment in place, particularly when operational conditions change.

Employers must consult occupational safety specialists

• if their business has particular hazards (see Appendix 1 of the ASA Directive) (businesses with a net occupational accident insurance premium rate of 0.5% or more of the payroll generally have particular hazards);
• if their business does not have the necessary expertise (see Appendix 4 of the ASA Directive) to ensure occupational safety and health protection.
